A Quick Glimpse of Who We Are
HIO's dedicated staff members in Kathmandu, Ram Adhikari and Palmo Dawa Tamang, tirelessly criss-cross the city every day, making home and school visits. They are the heart of the HIO program, and their dedication and commitment to our families is profound and unwavering. This type of outreach makes our program unique in its approach and implementation. Our brand of high-impact social work is very demanding, but it allows our staff to become intimately familiar with the girls and their families. |

The Be Part of Her Dream Women’s Education Project has transformed the lives of a group of poor women who were denied the chance to go to school as children. The program provides access to education for mothers of our sponsored girls. The women are helped to obtain Nepali citizenship papers and individual bank accounts. They are given a modest monthly stipend for attending five education classes per week. |

How HIO Changed Manisha's Life
Twenty years ago, Manisha’s Shrestha’s illiterate mother, Maya, was the sweeper at one of our partner schools, earning eight dollars a month for a week of nine-hour, back-breaking days of labor. She wanted better for her daughter, Manisha, who was sponsored at age five by HIO donors Hans and Ann Ruppel. At age 25, Manisha has a Masters degree in education and serves as the lead teacher at HIO's Bal Kendra Learning Center. |
